Terrabru is a coffee filter specifically designed to brew cold coffee.
My intention is not to reinvent the wheel, but to take advantage of terracotta as a material to address some of the pain points faced in the traditional South Indian coffee filter.
Each set is thrown and shaped on a potters' wheel. The press disc, made of Aluminium is attached after firing.

How it Works:
The coffee takes about 10 minutes to brew. The beauty of terra-cotta is that the coffee cools down, even as it collects in the bottom tumbler.
The cold earth brew process reduces acidity and bitterness of the brew, and adds a mild and desirable earthy flavor.
Design Considerations
The exteriors always remain cool, so the user doesn't burn their fingers while lifting the tumblers.
The lid doubles as a saucer to place the upper tumbler on, and collects the extra drops that tend to drip while the coffee is being poured out into a cup.

Packaging
The packaging needed to be minimal and earth-friendly, in line with the product.
A simple protective frame is made with post-consumer corrugated board, eliminating the need for bubble wrap or PU foam. The outer box is made from recycled Kraft board.
